Canfield Solitaire: how a round works

A focus for your next round

Take a moment to read the table. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear.

The objective of a round

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Check the relevant controls before continuing. Use the rule sheet as a reference.

The order of play

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Move exposed cards onto suit foundations in the stated rank order.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Input guidance

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Check the relevant controls before continuing. Treat this as a chance to practise one rule.

Work through an example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Keep the active rule in mind. Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take the next action only when the current step is clear.
